Christmas is just around the corner. It’s time to mingle with family members, binge on some food and of course, watch more anime! So, if you decide to dwell in a mancave before heading downstairs for the annual Christmas dinner, here’s a list of anime Christmas specials that you might want to add to your watch list.
Honey and Clover is this tumultuous love story where five characters are stuck in a love triangle. However, there’s one episode in the anime where everyone simmers down in order to have a good time at a Christmas party.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu is an anime film that follows the events of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It takes place between December 18 and December 24. The SOS Brigade plans to have a nabe party for Christmas until the morning of December 18. Kyon arrives at school and finds that his reality has changed. His friends, Haruhi and Koizumi are missing. His crush, a time traveller named Mikuru Asahina does not recognize him. And finally, Yuki Nagato, originally an alien humanoid interface, is a human. How will he turn things back to normal? That’s for you to find out.
In Ranma 1/2, everyone from the series is invited to a Christmas Party at Tendo Dojo. Yes. Everyone. Expect a lot of chaos in the midst of all that festivity.
Welp. It looks like you wouldn’t need to light your chimneys, boys (and girls). Love Hina is there to uhm… warm up your Christmas evening. Expect cute characters, lots of love confessions and fan service!
Toradora! follows the story of Aisaka Taiga, a fierce midget who’s been dubbed the “Palmtop Tiger” due to her brutal nature, and Ryuuji Takasu, a gentleman whose delinquent-like features cause people to mislabel him. This episode revolves around a Christmas party, at a time when Ryuuji Takasu was still head-over-heels in love with a girl named Minori. A must-watch for various reasons. It kind of defies most expectations for a Christmas special.
Kanon is an anime based on a visual novel. Featuring cute girls, gorgeous visuals and a Christmas-y atmosphere, Kanon is something that you’d want to watch while munching on gingerbread cookies.
I wouldn’t recommend watching the entire anime before the festivities start because you’d be bawling. However, I wouldn’t recommend jumping to this particular episode either. Here, main characters Tomoya and Nagisa decide to spend Christmas with their family. Nagisa gets drunk for the first time ever. Keep a box of tissues close by.
K-On is a cute, bubbly, kind-of-random slice-of-life anime revolving around a music club. And for their Christmas episode, the characters exchange Christmas gifts and celebrate by being their usual, optimistic selves. It’s actually a lot of better if you watch it.
A group of school girls spend Christmas together and have a genuinely good time.
This one’s for the shoujo (or shonen) who craves some butt-kicking magical girl action. In this film, the Sailor Senshi have to stop a villain who plans to transform the planet into a winter wonderland!
