Star Wars Commercial Encourages People to #CreateCourage

Depending on where you’re from, you’ve probably seen loads of cross-promotions for the new “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”. At least one of them might have tugged at your heartstrings even if slightly. Philippine Telecom Company, Globe, decided to join in the fun and entered the spotlight with their own version of a Rogue One cross-promo. The 123-second ad will have you bawling just as much as you did when Kylo Ren (SPOILER! HIGHLIGHT AT YOUR OWN RISK) killed Han Solo with his lightsaber. (SPOILER END)

The ad depicts the life of two siblings, an older brother and his tomboyish little sister who loves to wear a Stormtrooper helmet. The spot shows us a day in her life with that big white mask covering her head as if it’s perpetually stuck there. She traverses to school, eats breakfast, brushes her teeth and rides her makeshift 74-Z Speeder bike. She draws unwarranted stares from passersby but she doesn’t care, especially with her brother standing close by her side all the way through.

Towards the end of the video, a big surprise awaits the little girl and it’s absolutely heart-melting.

Some of the people who have watched the video might think that the producers missed a chance to use a Vader helmet but in my opinion, this is beautiful as it is. Plus, using a Vader helm would take away the heart of the experience. One look and the typical reaction would be”: “oh… there’s something wrong with her. This is too predictable.” The best part about this video is that the audience is allowed to connect to a girl who wholeheartedly loves Star Wars – not someone who has limitations in life. She’s a trooper among troopers – and it’s perfect that way.

Coupled with the hashtag “CreateCourage”, the effort encourages consumers to donate to the Philippine General Hospital Medical Foundation.
