Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – What We Know So Far

Yes, Star Wars fans are still Death Starry-eyed over the tantalizing new trailer for Rogue One. In case you haven’t seen it, you can watch it here:

Now, without further ado, here’s what we know so far about the upcoming movie:

Jyn Erso’s father, portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen, helped in making the Death Star

Jyn was taken away from her father, Galen Erso, as a child. Now his genius mind is part of the team that created the notorious planet destroying space globe thingy, in part to keep Jyn safe.

The rebels are pretty worried given the capacity of the Death Star’s power. Of course Force Awakens fans know that Kylo Ren, spoiled little sith apprentice brat that he is, commands a bigger and bolder weapon in the future, but the Death Star is, was and forever will be the iconic weapon that shook the universe the moment it blew Alderaan to smithereens.

Darth Vader will be making an appearance

Ultimately, it’s not surprising that Darth Vader will be appearing in this movie. It does take place some time Darth Sidious seduces him to the Dark Side.  Not sure if they’ll cue the Imperial March whenever he comes on screen. Let’s hope they do.

No Jedis

Rogue One bridges the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Anakin Skywalker, who had become Lord Vader, murdered the youngling Jedi’s and (nearly) brought an end to the Jedi Order with Order 66. A very small number of Jedi managed to escape destruction but the chances of seeing them in this movie are quite slim.

Some, if not majority, of the events will take place on Jedha

Jedha is a moon that served as a home to one of the first civilizations to ever explore the nature of the Force. Its resources were once used by the Jedi Order to build lightsabers. The Galactic Empire occupied the planet in order to take advantage of its resources, leading to an insurgency.

Lots of X-wings and Tie-Fighters – and Storm Troopers. Never forget the troopers

While the film will be holding back on  Lightsaber action, it will compensate with some of the Star Wars elements that fans are already familiar with. Tie-fighters, X-wings, AT-ATs and Storm Troopers won’t be missing in action in this movie as they are pretty untouchable elements in the Star Wars universe. Of course, this means tons of eye-candy aerial battles – the very kind that fans have been waiting for.

It’s a war film.

And it’s going to divert from the war between the Jedi and the Sith and explore more complex intergalactic political war. Its core focus right now will be the existing war between the Empire and the Rebellion.

Star Wars Rogue One is set to premiere on December 16, 2016. Save the date!
